Take Action!
The Food
Quality Protection Act (FQPA) is not far enough along in its
implementation for Generation Green to have any specific “action item”
regarding pesticides in our homes and on our store shelves. However, you
can encourage the EPA to step up the pace on the provisions of the act and
to establish better policies regarding the risk assessment and
classification of dangerous pesticides. Please click
here to visit our section on FQPA action steps and learn more.
You can also help by
encouraging your senator to support the Children's Environmental
Protection Act of 1999 (CEPA) if it should happen to move forward in the
Senate. The bill, which was introduced by Sen. Barbara Boxer to help
protect children from exposure to environmental pollutant and from
exposure to pesticides in schools and day care centers. It also would
provide parents with information concerning toxic chemicals that pose
risks to children. To learn more about CEPA’s status in Congress and its
provisions, you can review the bill by visiting the government Web site
“Thomas: Legislative Information on the Internet” and entering S1112
in the “Bill Number” field on the Thomas search page. You can reach
that Web page by clicking
here.
Another
way to take proactive steps would be to learn more about Integrated Pest
Management (IPM) here at the Generation Green site and elsewhere. Once you
know more about what it is, find out if your schools, parks, playgrounds
and other places you take your children use IPM. If not, encourage them to
do so. And encourage your neighbors to practice IPM as well.
You can

Reduction Action Kit. To obtain a copy, contact us by e-mail at info@generationgreen.org or call
