To Learn More About Arsenic in Wood…

For more information on arsenic-treated wood, testing for arsenic in wood and the progress of the CCA phase-out, you can visit the following sites:

Environmental Working Group

This site (at www.ewg.org) contains a great deal of environment information, including some very thorough reports. These include “The Poisonwood Rivals” and its predecessor, “Poisoned Playgrounds.” The site also offers information on obtaining arsenic wipe-test kits, which is information that you might want to pass along to officials at your local schools and parks.

To download Poisonwood Rivals, click here.

To download Poisoned Playgrounds, click here.

Healthy Building Network

This site (at www.healthybuilding.net) has a section on arsenic with tips on getting arsenic-free wood, links to articles involving CCA-treated wood and more. You can visit HBN’s arsenic section by clicking here. Like the EWG Web site noted above, they have arsenic testing kits that can be used for wood, which you or the officials in charge of local schools and playgrounds might benefit from ordering.

Environmental Protection Agency

The U.S. EPA’s Web site for its Office of Pesticide Programs (at www.epa.gov/pesticides) contains a section with basic information and numerous links regarding the use of CCA in wood. Click here to find out more.
